No Bailouts

This is not what America wants!

10/2/08 Message to my House Rep, Pete Stark

Thank you for previously voting no on the prior Bailout bill. I urge you to vote No on the current version.

It is essentially the same bill with incentives. It gives broad powers to the Treasury and Federal Reserve to manipulate markets that should not be there. It is hastily put together without sufficient intelligence, understanding and discussion.

While the collapse of the financial services sector looks scary and will cause pain. A failed sector of the economy needs to fail so good, solid businesses and practices can take their place. Keeping bad businesses in business and moving the bad securities to back the U.S. Dollar will continue and spread the problem of bad business practices into the future, probably leading to another emergency.

This situation came about manipulating the market with artificially low interest rates, promoting bad loans to those who couldn't afford them, and such. All with noble purposes of economic expansion, giving housing to low income people, etc. Broader manipulation of the economy for noble purposes will just lead to larger problems. Please vote no on this version of the Bailout bill.

Turns out my Congressional Representative, Pete Stark, was one of the few Democrats to vote against the bill the second time.
